WELCOME TO THE DEPARTMENT OF ANATOMY!

Department of anatomy has existed since 1945, the beginning of Ewha Womans University School of Medicine. Anatomy is a basic medical science to study the structure and function of human body. In addition to traditional morphological techniques, many new research methods such as molecular biological techniques are now developed in this field.

Education is an important responsibility of our department. Our department involves in many academic courses for medical and graduate students. The main lecture courses for the medical students (M1) are Anatomy and Embryology, Human Nervous System, and Human Structure and Function. Besides formal lectures, our courses also adopt unique laboratory programs using real human body, brain, and various tissue sections as well as virtual computer systems. The major courses we offer in the graduate school program are Advanced Anatomy, Morphological Methodology, Basic Neuroanatomy, Histology, Electron Microscopy, and Forensic Anthropology.

Research is also another big part of our faculty members. They, both individually and collaboratively, perform many research projects on biomechanical phenomenon of organisms. Professor Hann is interested in pathogenesis of hypoxic retinopathy, Parkinson's disease, and epilepsy. Professor Lee carries out researches on neuronal toxicology and embryology of fetal environment. Professor Han's main research projects are focused on renal ultrastructure, development, and regeneration. Professor Shin does research on retinal disease, normal development and aging.
