Department of Molecular Medicine was founded to foster the environment of basic and clinical research in molecular medicine. Our department supports educational and research programs for students of M.D., M.S., and Ph.D. course related to molecular medicine field in Medical School.
The research in our department has focused on characterization and development of diagnostic and therapeutic targets for neurodegenerative diseases, drug addiction, cardiovascular disease, obesity-related metabolic syndrome, and lung cancer. Recently, we are also interested in studying translational research to connect bench-side findings to bed-side applications.
Five professors are currently working in our department as followings; Prof. Hee Sun Kim, molecular mechanisms and development of therapeutic agents for neuroinflammation and Parkinson’s disease; Prof. Se Kwan Oh, drug addiction, stress, molecular mechanism of memory, and functional study of sphingolipid; Prof. Inho Jo, identification of kinase(s)/phosphate(s) regulating endothelial nitric oxide (NO) production and their roles in vascular functions, and in vitro and in vivo translational research using tonsil-derived mesenchymal stem cells; Prof. Young Mi Park, pathophysiology of obesity-related metabolic syndrome and cellular mechanism of lipid-mediated inflammation; Prof. Young-Ho Ahn, functional study of non-coding RNAs and tumor microenvironment in lung cancer progression and metastasis.
