The Microbiology Department offers the lectures and study programs for the medical student as well as graduate student for M.S or Ph.D. courses.
For medical students, lectures and lab works provide intensive course of human pathogen and immune reactions which can serve the purpose of becoming a primary physician. Through the 9 sessions of lab works, students can acquire and perform basic techniques for immunologic methods, aseptic techniques for pathogen isolation and culture.
The Microbiology Department also provides the opportunity of Undergraduate Research Program (“Lab rotation”) during summer and winter vacations for medical students. This program provides 3 to 5 weeks of research opportunities in the laboratories of the faculty in Microbiology Department. For the first-year pre-med students, professors provide in-depth lab experiencing program (“The Team Leadership Project”), consisting of weekly lab works for 2 months.
For graduate students, research training lead to a M.S. or Ph.D. degree which will prepare the student for a career in academic research, industry, or teaching. The learning experience is enhanced by lab meeting seminars and journal clubs at which the most current and on-going research is discussed.
The department's faculty members teach and perform research in the areas of immunology, microbial pathogenesis, and virology.
